At just 17, Toby Harris has already made a name for himself on the diamond. Representing Brooklyn, NY, and the Berkeley Carroll School, Toby is a cornerstone of the Maccabi Baseball community, bringing passion, leadership, and a deep connection to his Jewish identity both on and off the field.

 

Toby’s Maccabi journey began in 2024, and in just two years, he’s already built memories that will last a lifetime. His favorite highlight so far? “Winning the chip in 2024,” he says with pride—a testament to the team’s hard work and camaraderie. Beyond the victories, though, the Maccabi experience has meant much more. Toby shares that being a part of Team Maccabi “helped me embrace my Jewish identity… I feel comfortable with who I am.”

Toby’s baseball story began when he was just three years old. Since then, he’s played for standout programs like FTB Falcons and SFX Huskies, honing his skills and developing into a confident shortstop—a position he loves for the responsibility it demands. “You have to be the leader of the infield,” he says, a role that comes naturally to him.

 

When asked who has shaped his baseball journey, Toby credits his coaches, who have guided him with wisdom and support at every step. Their mentorship has helped him grow not only as an athlete but also as a leader and teammate.

Toby’s future goals are as ambitious as his play style. On the field, his sights are set on playing professional baseball. Off the field, he dreams of making an impact in another way—“to make a lot of money and inspire others,” he says with confidence. His inspiration in the sport? Jarren Duran, the Boston Red Sox outfielder known for his speed and grit.

While Toby is laser-focused between the lines, there’s a fun and surprising side to him, too. “I used to be able to solve a Rubik’s cube in 28 seconds,” he shares—a glimpse of the quick thinking and sharp mind that undoubtedly translates to his game.
