The Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U delivered a dominant performance on Monday at Fox Chapel, scoring six runs in a decisive fourth inning en route to a 10-0 victory over Greater Washington Maccabi 17U.

The Hammer got on the board early. In the top of the first, Alex Demas singled to center and Toby Harris followed with a walk, each crossing the plate to stake an early 2-0 lead. But it was the fourth inning that really put the game out of reach. Mark Itzikowitz singled, Dylan Baron added another run with a single, and Ryan Steinberg drove in a run when hit by a pitch. An error allowed one more run to score, and Josh Itzikowitz capped the rally with a two-run single, giving the Hammer a commanding advantage.

On the mound, Sid Jacobson JCC got strong work from both starters and relievers. David Lieberman set the tone in the opening inning, allowing just one hit and no runs. Ethan Blitz started for Greater Washington, giving up five runs on four hits over three and one-third innings, striking out four. Justin Lebowitz came in to relieve for the Hammer, pitching three scoreless innings while striking out three and walking two, shutting the door on any potential comeback.

Offensively, Steinberg, Itzikowitz, and Josh Itzikowitz each drove in two runs, while Demas led the team with two hits in four at-bats. Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U showcased patience at the plate, drawing eight walks, led by Nate Greene’s three free passes. Defensively, the team was flawless, executing a double play and committing no errors, with Steinberg recording the most chances in the field with five.

For Greater Washington, James Sohl went 3-for-3, but his efforts were not enough to spark the offense.

The Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday at the University of Pittsburgh, erupting for seven runs in the third inning to pull away from Fort Lauderdale 17U in a 13-4 victory.

The Hammer jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. David Granger’s fielder’s choice allowed one run to score, followed by a two-run double from Mark Itzikowitz and a two-run single by David Lieberman, giving Sid Jacobson JCC a 5-0 advantage. They added another run in the second on a wild pitch, making it 6-1, setting the stage for the decisive third inning.

The third proved to be the Hammer’s breakout frame. David Lieberman singled to bring home a run, and an error added another. Alex Demas, Toby Harris, Justin Lebowitz, and Jake Bursztyn each drove in runs, with Lebowitz contributing a two-run single, totaling seven runs in the inning and extending the lead to an insurmountable margin.

Josh Itizkowitz earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit and four runs over three innings while striking out three and walking four. Fort Lauderdale starter David Granger struggled, giving up seven runs (six earned) on three hits over two and one-third innings while walking seven and striking out two.

Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U showcased depth throughout their lineup. Lieberman, hitting ninth, led the team with two hits in three at-bats, while both Lebowitz and Lieberman drove in three runs apiece. The Hammer also displayed patience and aggression at the plate, drawing ten walks, led by Gabe Leone and Nate Greene with three free passes each. Speed was a factor as well, with Ryan Steinberg and Lieberman stealing multiple bases, contributing to a total of seven stolen bases for the game.

Defensively, the Hammer were flawless, committing no errors, with Itizkowitz recording the most plays with four. For Fort Lauderdale, Braydon Weiner led the offense with one hit in two at-bats, and Nate Greene stole two bases.

GAME 2

MIXED PITT/STL/NO/CHI 3

Ryan Steinberg was unstoppable on Monday at Fox Chapel, driving in four runs on three hits to guide the Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U to a 17-3 victory over Mixed PITT/STL/NO/CHI/DET/SPR. Steinberg’s big night included a three-run single in the fourth, a sacrifice fly in the second, and another RBI single in the third, giving the Hammer a dominant offensive performance.

The Hammer wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Alex Demas hit a sacrifice fly to score two runs, and Jake Bursztyn followed with a single that brought home another, giving Sid Jacobson JCC an early 3-0 lead. Mixed PITT/STL/NO/CHI/DET/SPR responded in the top of the second with a double by Sam Kraemer, an error, and a single by Omri Regev to tie the game.

Sid Jacobson JCC answered emphatically in the bottom of the second, erupting for five runs on just two hits to regain control, 8-3. Nate Greene’s bases-loaded walk drove in two key runs, swinging momentum firmly in the Hammer’s favor. They didn’t stop there. In the third, the Hammer added another five runs on four hits, including a two-run groundout by Zach Adelstein, Steinberg’s RBI single, and a two-run single from Demas.

Dylan Baron earned the win on the mound, pitching four solid innings and allowing just four hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out three without issuing a walk. Mixed PITT/STL/NO/CHI/DET/SPR starter Regev struggled, giving up eight runs on four hits over just one and one-third innings, walking five along the way.

Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U showcased patience and aggression at the plate, drawing eight walks and stealing seven bases. Greene led the way on the base paths with three steals, helping the team turn speed into runs. Adelstein contributed two walks in his own right, keeping pressure on the opposing pitchers.

For Mixed PITT/STL/NO/CHI/DET/SPR, Kraemer, Regev, Drew Rosenblum, and Drew Edelstein each collected one hit, with Kraemer and Regev driving in a run apiece, but it wasn’t nearly enough to slow the Hammer juggernaut.

GAME 5 SEMI FINAL

Having secured the #1 spot in the tournament and earned a first-round bye, the Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U carried their momentum into the semi-finals on Wednesday at the University of Pittsburgh, cruising to a commanding 13-0 victory over Mixed PITT/STL/NO/CHI/DET/SPR.

The Hammer wasted no time establishing control. In the bottom of the first inning, Josh Itizkowitz singled to drive in two runs, Mark Itzikowitz followed with a walk scoring another, and an error added one more, giving Sid Jacobson JCC an early 4-0 lead. They extended the advantage in the second with a triple by Alex Demas scoring two and an RBI single from Itizkowitz. A Ryan Steinberg single in the third added another run, keeping the Hammer in command.

The offense erupted again in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Jake Bursztyn doubled home one, Justin Lebowitz singled in two, Dylan Baron added a single for one run, and Steinberg singled to bring home another, pushing the lead to an insurmountable margin.

David Lieberman earned the win on the mound, tossing four dominant innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking four. Mixed PITT/STL/NO/CHI/DET/SPR starter Eli Reppy struggled, giving up four runs (two earned) on one hit over just one inning while walking three.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Steinberg led the Hammer with three hits in four at-bats, while Lebowitz, Steinberg, and Demas each drove in two runs. Itizkowitz contributed two hits in three at-bats. Sid Jacobson JCC showcased patience at the plate, drawing seven walks—led by Itizkowitz, Demas, and Nate Greene with two each. Speed was a key factor as well, with Lebowitz and Greene each stealing multiple bases, and the team accumulating eight stolen bases overall.

With this dominant win, Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U moves one step closer to the championship, carrying both confidence and momentum from their top-seed position into the finals.

TUESDAY AUGUST 5TH 2025

MIXED OC/PHIL/AA/CNJ 4

The Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U overcame a four-run deficit to pull out a thrilling 5-4 victory over Mixed OC/SD/PHL/AA/CNJ on Tuesday at Shadyside.

Mixed OC/SD/PHL/AA/CNJ jumped to an early lead in the top of the first inning, as their #7 hitter tripled to drive in three runs, followed by a single from #4 that pushed across another, giving them a 4-0 advantage.

The Hammer fought back in the bottom of the second. A hit by pitch, an error, and a single by Gabe Leone helped cut into the lead and even the score, setting the stage for a tense finish. In the bottom of the third, a walk by Alex Demas drove in the go-ahead run, giving Sid Jacobson JCC a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish.

Josh Mandel earned the win on the mound for the Hammer, tossing four innings while allowing eight hits and four runs, striking out five and walking two. Relief work came from Josh Itzikowitz and Jake Brooks, who helped secure the victory. Mixed OC/SD/PHL/AA/CNJ’s starter, #1, struggled with control, giving up five runs (one earned) on two hits over two and two-thirds innings while walking four.

Offensively, Ryan Steinberg, Gabe Leone, and Jake Bursztyn each recorded a hit for the Hammer, with Mark Itzikowitz and Leone driving in a run apiece. Steinberg added two stolen bases, while the team turned two key double plays to preserve the narrow lead.

For Mixed OC/SD/PHL/AA/CNJ, #7 led the offense with three RBIs on a 1-for-2 performance, while #4, #18, #2, #34, #21, #15, #7, and #44 each collected one hit. Despite their early surge, they could not hold off the Hammer’s late-game rally.

GAME 6  FINALS

THURSDAY AUGUST 7TH 2025

The Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U entered Thursday’s championship game at the University of Pittsburgh riding a 12-game winning streak spanning two years, and they showed why with a dominant 14-0 victory over Greater Washington Maccabi 17U. The Hammer’s surge was fueled by a record-setting second inning, where they plated 13 runs to seize control of the game.

The rally began with a string of walks and hits that had the scoreboard ticking rapidly. Justin Lebowitz, Ryan Steinberg, and Nate Greene each drew a walk, scoring one run apiece, before Alex Demas and Josh Itizkowitz added RBI singles. Toby Harris followed with a three-run double, Jake Bursztyn singled in another, and Steinberg and Greene each delivered key RBI singles to push the lead to 13-0 by the end of the inning. David Lieberman’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the third extended the margin to 14-0, putting the game completely out of reach.

Zach Adelstein earned the win on the mound for the Hammer, tossing four innings of shutout ball while allowing just one hit, striking out two, and walking two. Greater Washington starter Michael Newman struggled, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on seven hits over one and one-third innings while walking three.

The Hammer showcased both depth and balance at the plate, finishing with 13 hits. Mark Itzikowitz, Toby Harris, Lieberman, Greene, and Bursztyn each collected two hits, while Steinberg, Harris, and Greene each drove in three runs. Greene also stole two bases, adding to the team’s aggressive play on the base paths. Defensively, the Hammer were flawless, executing one double play and committing no errors, with Harris leading the team with three chances in the field.

For Greater Washington, Andrew Giacalone led the offense with one hit in two at-bats, but it wasn’t nearly enough to counter the Hammer’s overwhelming firepower.

With the win, the Sid Jacobson JCC Hammer 17U cemented their dominance in the tournament, capping a remarkable 12-game winning streak over two seasons with a championship performance that highlighted the team’s depth, speed, and power.
