Josh Mandel, from New York, NY, is a talented left-handed pitcher and right fielder for The Calhoun School. Josh has competed in the JCC Maccabi Games in 2024 and 2025, earning a gold medal and creating memories he will cherish for a lifetime. His favorite moment from the Games? “Winning gold,” a moment that embodies the hard work and dedication he brings both on and off the field.
Being part of Team Maccabi has been transformative for Josh, giving him a strong sense of Jewish pride and the opportunity to serve as a role model for younger athletes. Competing alongside like-minded peers has strengthened his connection to his heritage while teaching the value of leadership, accountability, and teamwork.
Josh began playing baseball at the age of 3 and has competed for several organizations, including NYC Stars, Bluebirds, West Side Hawks, and Fury Elite. As a left-handed pitcher, he thrives on the challenge of controlling the game, picking off runners, and mastering his curveball. He credits his teammates for holding him accountable and helping him become the best version of himself.
His baseball goals include playing Division III baseball, while his aspirations off the field include earning an MBA and becoming a CEO. He draws inspiration from MLB stars Cody Bellinger and Jacob DeGrom, studying their approach to the game and professionalism.
Beyond baseball, Josh has a fun and competitive side: he once hit elite pre-game grounders, showcasing both his skill and dedication to preparation. Josh Mandel is a committed athlete, a proud representative of his community, and a young man whose journey in baseball and life is only beginning.
