For Dash Marcus, baseball has been an 11-year journey filled with competition, friendships, and the desire to become the best version of himself both on and off the field. Representing Manhasset, NY, and Johns Hopkins in the near future, Dash brought his experience as a right-handed pitcher to the 2026 JCC Maccabi Games and became part of a championship experience he won't soon forget.
Dash’s favorite Maccabi memory combined the ultimate prize with a celebration that only happens after a championship. “Winning the gold and jumping in the pool with jersey” was the moment that stood out most. The gold medal represented the result of all the team's hard work, while the pool celebration provided a memory that Dash and his teammates will undoubtedly be talking about for years.
But the most lasting part of Maccabi may have been what happened away from the field. “It built friends and relationships that I will have for the rest of my life,” Dash says. The bonds he formed with his teammates turned a baseball tournament into an experience that went far beyond the games themselves.
Representing his community and Jewish identity also gave the week added meaning. Maccabi “made it feel more than just a game, and brought value to everything we did off the field.” For Dash, being part of Team Maccabi meant understanding that the experience was about the people, the community, and the connections as much as it was about baseball.
Dash has been playing baseball for 11 years and has played for Manhasset, the Titans, and the East Coast Lumberjacks. His primary position is right-handed pitcher, a role he enjoys because of the control and responsibility that comes with being on the mound. “I love that I control some aspects of the game and that I have the power to shut a team down.” That mentality reflects the confidence and competitiveness Dash brings every time he takes the ball.
His biggest influences have been his older teammates who have gone on to play college baseball. Watching those players progress to the next level has given Dash examples to follow and goals to pursue as he continues his own baseball journey.
Those goals are ambitious. Dash wants to win a Division III National Championship at Johns Hopkins, combining his desire to compete at a high level with his commitment to being a successful student-athlete. Academically and personally, his goal is simple: “Be the best student I can while being a student-athlete, as well as be successful in whatever I do.”
Dash’s favorite MLB player is Jacob deGrom, one of the most dominant pitchers of his generation. DeGrom’s combination of power, control, and competitiveness makes him a fitting inspiration for a young right-hander who enjoys the responsibility of shutting down an opposing lineup.
Away from baseball and academics, Dash has a hobby that brings out a very different side of him—he loves Legos. Whether he's building something piece by piece or working toward his next championship, Dash understands that great things are often built one piece at a time.
Dash Marcus is more than a right-handed pitcher. He is a competitor, a student-athlete, a loyal teammate, and a proud Jewish athlete who discovered that the best part of Maccabi may not always happen on the baseball field. The gold medal and pool celebration will always be part of his Maccabi memories, but the friendships and relationships he built may be the most valuable prize of all.
