For Jack Goldberg, baseball has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. Representing Roslyn, NY, and Roslyn High School, Jack has developed a competitive mindset built around hard work, perseverance, and a determination to prove that what matters most isn’t always what people see on the outside.
Jack competed in the 2026 JCC Maccabi Games, and his favorite memory was one every athlete dreams about—winning the gold medal. But the experience meant more to Jack than simply standing on top of the podium. Being part of Team Maccabi helped him better understand his Jewish heritage and gave him a deeper connection to an important part of who he is. “It helped me understand my Jewish heritage more,” Jack says, while representing his community and Jewish identity meant “knowing who I was as a person.”
Jack has played baseball his whole life and currently plays for Long Island Elite and Time To Sign. While he can contribute at both first base and on the mound, pitching is his primary position—and he loves it for one simple reason: “I control the game.” That confidence reflects the mindset Jack brings to the mound, where every pitch provides another opportunity to dictate what happens next.
His biggest influences have been his dad and his coaches. His father has always supported his dreams both on and off the field, while coaches Craig Hansen and Mike Dorcean have helped him develop what Jack describes as a college baseball mentality. Hansen has taught him to push himself even when nobody else is watching, while Dorcean has emphasized the importance of being a positive teammate and presence in the locker room.
Those lessons have helped shape Jack’s goals as a player. “My goal as a baseball player is to be the hardest worker in every room,” he says. Jack knows he still has plenty of baseball ahead of him and isn’t sure yet where his ceiling will be. What he does know is that he plans to work relentlessly to reach it—and then push beyond it.
Academically, Jack hopes to attend a strong academic school, giving himself an education he can rely on no matter where baseball takes him. But his ultimate goal is clear: “I know baseball will be where I make it.”
Jack’s favorite MLB players are Zack Greinke and Trevor Bauer, in part because neither seemed particularly concerned with what other people thought of them. But his biggest baseball inspiration isn't actually a player—it’s the desire to prove people wrong. Because of his size, Jack has often found himself overlooked throughout his baseball career. Rather than letting that discourage him, he has turned it into motivation. “Every time I get overlooked I always wind up being better than the people who were put ahead of me.”
Away from the diamond, Jack has another passion that fits right in with his love of sports: he collects sports cards and memorabilia. It’s a hobby that allows him to appreciate the history and personalities of the games he loves even when he isn't playing them himself.
Jack Goldberg is more than a pitcher or first baseman. He is a competitor who has learned to turn being overlooked into fuel, a teammate who understands the value of positivity, and a proud Jewish athlete who gained a deeper understanding of his heritage through Maccabi. His gold medal may be the newest accomplishment in his collection, but if Jack has anything to say about it, it won't be the last.
